Guilford County Hike and Picnic led by Celeste Queen

Join us for a leisurely hike and picnic. Meet at 10:00 AM to explore the Piedmont on the MST. Meet at Guilford County Prison Farm parking lot (7315 Howerton Rd., Elon).

This out and back hike of 4-miles will be slow-paced to enjoy the beauty of the countryside. All hikers are welcome, but this slower-paced hike is geared towards new or slower hikers.

At Guilford County Farm you get sections of big sky and rolling hills but also a cozy creekside trail through the woods. This is the real Piedmont, or how the Piedmont has been for hundreds of years - back when farms were a few acres and kids would run the fence lines of the neighbors down to the creek to catch crawdads and make it home for dinner wihen it got dark. The trailhead and picnic tables are located at Guilford County Prison Farm, which ceased operation in 2015. Follow the MST to the donkey pen to visit with Jax and Opie, they love visitors! As you meander into the forest on Prison Run Pass, you'll enjoy the sounds of water and over 150 species of birds. 

Wear hiking boots/shoes, sunhat, hiking clothes and bring water and a bag lunch for a post-hike picnic. No pets allowed. Capacity is 20.
